Your evening begins at the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum on Route 251 in Rush, NY at the historic Industry Depot, where you will board our vintage diesel train for a ride to Midway and a transfer to an authentic electric trolley. The trolley will take you through rolling hills to the grounds of the New York Museum of Transportation. There you can play lawn games, enjoy a complimentary ice cream, or simply relax for a pleasant evening with performances from the Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra.
Trains & Trolleys will depart every 30 minutes between 4:00pm and 7:00pm. Choose your departure time when you purchase your tickets, and then stay as long as you like! All tickets include round-trip train and trolley rides, as well as one complimentary ice cream. We recommend bringing a chair or a blanket to really make the most of the evening, and assistance will be available to handle these through your journey.

Join us for Conrail Day, a special event commemorating the 50th birthday of Conrail!
This event, in collaboration with the Conrail Historical Society, will feature presentations on the history of Conrail and rides on historic Conrail equipment. Admission will be good for the whole day. Food will be available all day from Reservoir Dog’z. We’ve prepared a day full of trains so make sure to check out the schedule to plan your visit!

In the shop right now is one of Conrail’s “DeWitt Geeps,” RS3M Lehigh Valley 211, formerly CR 5487/9920. LV 211 is currently in the shop undergoing restoration. Learn more about how you can support us as we work to bring it back to operation!

All Aboard for Rails & Ales! Enjoy complimentary tastings from more than a dozen local craft breweries on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. Ride our vintage diesel train to visit tasting stations located at both ends of the museum grounds. Choose the time of your first departure, then ride between stations as often as you like. Arrive early? There will be plenty of great craft beverages to sample while you wait.
Discover an exciting variety of craft beer styles — from crisp and refreshing to bold and adventurous. Your ticket includes museum admission and a complimentary souvenir tasting glass. Food and additional refreshments will be available for purchase, and free soft drinks are provided for designated drivers. Between tastings, explore New York State’s largest collection of historic trains, tour our exhibits, and see preservation work in action as we bring railroad history back to life. Don’t get left at the station — this event is for guests 21 and over only.

Join us for Subway Day, a special event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of Rochester Subway service and the 110th birthday of Rochester Subway Car 60. This event will feature special exhibits on the history of the Rochester Subway—from its origins in the bed of the old Erie Canal through to its final run on June 30th, 1956, as well as a display of our progress restoring Car 60, the last surviving car from the Rochester Subway!

The Easter Bunny rides the rails! As the last of winter snows begin to melt, spring is just around the corner! Celebrate the fresh air and warmer weather with a fun family trip to the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. Join us for the Easter Bunny’s annual visit to our museum and ride our special Easter Bunny Train Rides on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
During your visit, you will enjoy train rides that tour our museum grounds as you visit New York’s largest collection of historic trains. Enjoy a mile-and-a-half round trip train ride through our bucolic museum grounds. After the train ride, children will take part in an Easter egg hunt, which includes a visit with the Easter Bunny for photos. Snacks and refreshments available for purchase. Our museum gift shop is stocked with souvenirs for train buffs of all ages. All aboard!
Step back into the golden age of Rochester transit at the Rochester Subway Gala, a 1950s-themed evening of classic cocktails, cinema, and history on Sunday, June 21. Held at the elegant George Eastman House, this special fundraising event marks the 70th anniversary of the end of Rochester Subway service while supporting local historic preservation.
Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception with drinks and light hors d’oeuvres before a private screening of End of the Line 2.0 in the historic Dryden Theatre, followed by a moderated Q&A with the film’s producers. Dressing up in period “Mad Men”–style 1950s attire is encouraged to help set the mood for an evening inspired by mid-century Rochester.
All net proceeds from the event benefit the restoration of Rochester Subway Car 60, the last surviving car from the Rochester Subway, now undergoing restoration at the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. Celebrate Rochester’s past, support hands-on preservation, and help bring an iconic piece of the city’s transportation history back to life.
Tickets are $125 per person and include one complimentary drink ticket, cocktail reception, and admission to the screening and Q&A. A cash bar will be available.

All aboard for the pumpkin patch! Enjoy a mile-and-a-half train ride through our rural museum grounds, located in the scenic heart of the Genesee Valley! Ride aboard authentically restored vintage trains to the Pumpkin Patch where every child will choose a small pumpkin to take home to decorate. Complementary juice, cookies, and coloring books for everyone. Enjoy self-guided tours of historic trains and our restoration shop, and a special exhibit of operating Lionel trains by the Flower City Tinplate Trackers.
