Rochester Subway Day commemorates the 70th anniversary of the end of Rochester Subway service and the 110th birthday of Rochester Subway Car 60! All tickets sold will go directly to the restoration of Car 60!

Rochester Subway Day will feature:

During your visit, you will also have access to:
The largest collection of preserved railroad equipment in New York State
Our restoration shop, where we work to bring railroad history back to life
Exhibits on railroad history and operations, and numerous cars to explore
A gift shop stocked with refreshments and souvenirs for train buffs of all ages
Trolleys will depart every 30 minutes from 10:00am until 2:00pm. A transfer to our vintage diesel train will take you the rest of the way to the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. Stay as long as you like, with trains departing every half hour to take you back to your car. Plan for at least an hour total for your visit. The last return train will depart at 2:45.

From its origins in the bed of the old Erie Canal through to its final run on June 30th, 1956, the history of the Rochester Subway has always captivated the imagination. As we approach the 70th anniversary of the end of the Subway, we work to carry that history into the future.
The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum is honored to have Car 60, the last surviving car from the Rochester Subway, in our collection. Car 60 is also turning 110 this year, and the museum is working diligently to restore the car for public display and eventual operation.
All tickets sales from the event will directly support the restoration of Car 60, and direct donations can also be made here.
A huge thank you to the New York Museum of Transportation for their collaboration on this event, and for allowing us to allocate all ticket revenue to Car 60 by providing their facilities, crew, and equipment free of charge. Preservation is truly a group effort.
