Museums Opening Day – Trolley and Diesel Rides

May 11, 2014 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

In coordination with Amtrak‚Äôs National Train Day weekend of special events nationwide, please join us for the beginning of our 2014 train ride operating season! Enjoy a 2-mile round trip trolley excursion that connects to a diesel train, linking the New York Museum of Transportation (NYMT) with the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum‘s country depot and railroad equipment collection. The trolley portion of the ride is the only such operation in New York State, and the diesel train ride adds a special thrill for railfans young and old. Operation Lifesaver will be attending to remind visitors about railroad safety. Ticket includes admission to both museums. No reservations needed. Adults $10.00, Youth (3-17), Seniors (65+) $8.00

The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum can trace its routes back to 1937 as the Rochester Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. Since our museum was established in 1971, we have preserved more than 40 pieces of historic railroad equipment along with our 1909 Erie Railroad passenger station to bring Rochester's rich railroading heritage to life.
Established in 1973, the New York Museum of Transportation houses eleven full size trolley cars, a caboose, a steam locomotive, antique highway and horse-drawn vehicles, a huge model railroad display, and the various associated smaller items that illuminate Rochester's transportation history.
