Diesel Day – Trolley and extended Diesel Rides
August 17, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Railroads have been a vital part of our nation’s success for more than 150 years, thanks to continuous expansion and innovation. One of those innovations is the diesel locomotive, which has been the backbone of the industry since the 1940s. From the earliest switch engines to today’s high-horsepower thoroughbreds, the diesel locomotive has been essential to the growth of American railroads.
These kings of the rails come in all sizes, and the collection of the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum gives visitors a close-up look. Learn what makes a diesel go, and how they are able to generate so much power. See several different types of diesel locomotives under power, and take a ride in a real caboose! Enjoy a 2-mile round trip trolley excursion that connects to a diesel train, linking the New York Museum of Transportation (NYMT) with the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum’s country depot and railroad equipment collection. Enjoy the only combined trolley and diesel operation in New York State! Ticket includes admission to both museums. No reservations needed. Adults $10.00, Youth (3-17), Seniors (65+) $8.00 – EXTENDED HOURS 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
UPDATE: The Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad will be proving one of their historic diesel locomotives for display at Industry Depot! No. 418 is an Alco RS36 that was built for the Nickel Plate Road, then served on the Norfolk & Western, the Ontario Central, before coming to the LA&L.
